Danny Hashim Autism Awareness Charity
Making Scotland a kinder and more accepting place for children and young people with autism
Every child with autism deserves equal opportunities to succeed.
We offer a variety of services to meet the needs of the autism community in Scotland. These include educational resources, support groups, and more. Our team is committed to improving the lives of those affected by autism.
With your support, help us:
Raise awareness
We work to increase awareness and understanding of autism within schools, communities, and wider society, helping to create more inclusive and supportive environments.
Fund training
We fund autism awareness and specialist training for teachers, carers, and professionals, ensuring those with a duty of care have the knowledge and confidence to provide appropriate support.
Provide resources
We provide practical resources to support children with autism across all aspects of the school curriculum, from sensory-friendly learning materials to tools that help develop social and communication skills.
Challenge the Scottish Government
We challenge the Scottish Government to strengthen existing legislation, advocating for meaningful change that improves outcomes for children and young people with autism and those experiencing mental health challenges.
Our beloved Danny tragically lost his life at just 18 in 2022. He was diagnosed with autism at 13, after years without the understanding and support he needed. By the time his diagnosis was recognised, vital opportunities for early intervention had been missed, and the support he received at school was insufficient. Over time, this lack of understanding and care had a profound impact on Danny’s mental health, leading him to become increasingly withdrawn.
Danny’s story highlights the urgent need for improved awareness, training, and support for those responsible for caring for those with autism so that no family has to experience such a loss again.
Our Aims

We fund autism awareness training to adults working with children and young people from nursery to secondary school (from ages 3-18) to identify the signs of autism. We also fund autism awareness courses for parents with autistic children.

We aim to create safe spaces to help young people with autism interact comfortably amongst each other. We also promote tolerance and education through school visits and presentations.

We advocate for an increase in funding by the Scottish Government to allocate resources for young people's mental health.
